The KULTIBA Project

Do you need microalgae for use in sectors as diverse as food, cosmetics and agriculture?

We supply both wet and dry biomass from Isochrysis galbana and/or fucoxanthin extract

Isochrysis galbana

We produce high-yield strains of Isochrysis galbana. Cultivation takes place indoors, in tubular reactors and under specific conditions, to produce high-value microalgae.

  • 100% European, sustainable and traceable production: Cultivated using seawater from the Bay of Biscay — without the use of fresh water or competition with agricultural crops.
  • Optimised strains and processes: Isochrysis galbana adapted for consistent bioactive profiles and high industrial yield.
  • Consistent and reproducible production: Year-round controlled indoor cultivation using standardised processes and digital monitoring.
  • European certifications and standards: GMP, COSMO, non-GMO, vegan and eco-friendly production, in accordance with EU regulations on quality, safety and sustainability.
  • Innovation platform: A bridge between scientific research and the commercialisation of new European natural ingredients.

We also harvest and dry the biomass at our facilities, using centrifugation and dehydration. Once the processing is complete, the biomass is ready to be packaged and shipped.

Fucoxantina

It is a miracle molecule for health; a functional carotenoid with applications in animal and human health, cosmetics and advanced nutrition.

  • Fucoxanthin is a natural antioxidant and fat burner. It has anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective and anti-tumour properties, which have been validated by scientific studies.
  • It can only be obtained from brown macroalgae and marine microalgae: there is no viable synthetic alternative.
  • Today, 90% of the world’s fucoxanthin comes from Asia, sourced from macroalgae, with poor traceability and unsustainable production processes.
  • Europe does not produce fucoxanthin on an industrial scale.
  • The European market is fragmented, consisting of a small number of small producers who are unable to provide a continuous and stable supply throughout the year.

The KULTIBA project contributes to the Green Deal and to Europe’s strategic autonomy in biotechnology and sustainable food.

Our vision is to become Europe’s leading producer of microalgae for the extraction of natural fucoxanthin

From the Basque Country, we are driving forward marine biotechnology that will lead the fucoxanthin market
